Regardless of the economic policies carried out by the U.S. President Donald Trump, Guanajuato shows an increase of approximately 10% in the number of exports during the first months of this year in relation to the previous year.
Luis Rojas Ávila, State’s Coordinator of Foreign Trade Development (Coordinadora de Fomento al Comercio Exterior de Estado de Guanajuato, COFOCE) mentioned that, during the first quarter of this year, the value of the state’s exports was $5.6 billion dollars, which means a potential increase of $539.22 million USD compared with the same period last year.
In the period of January to March 2017, the automotive-parts sector shows the best figures, with 79.15% participation in the local economy, followed by agro-food, with a 6%; metalworking, with 4.8%; and chemicals with a 2.62%.
The Coordination of Foreign Trade Development stated that 867 exporting companies have registered a rise. 37% of them are small enterprises, 32% are medium, 14% are micro and 17% are large companies that are settled in 32 out of 46 municipalities of the state of Guanajuato.
In terms of presence abroad, the municipality of Silao comes first with 57%; followed by Salamanca, with 12.4%; Irapuato, with 8.6%; Celaya, with 7.2% and León, with 2.8% participation.
The main destinations which receive Guanajuato’s products are: United States, Canada, Colombia, Germany, China, Great Britain and Argentina.
