La Fiesta de Los Locos, is popular parade that takes place every year the first weekend after the day of San Antonio de Padua ( June 13 ).
For this occasion, the event will take place on June 18 at 12:00 p.m. in SMA.
This unique event is a walk that starts from the Church of San Antonio, then marches along the streets of Zacateros , Hernández Macías, Insurgentes , Aparicio and San Francisco Núñez, until getting right in front of the Central Garden . This parade that includes people from the districts of San Miguel , as well as visitors, is sheathed in colorful animal costumes , political characterizations, transvestites, etc.
Participants disguise themselves with an amazing variety of costumes made of old clothes , cardboard boxes , paper mache, wire, masking tape , and anything else on hand that can be useful. They represent caricatures of timeless domestic and foreign characters, celebrities, political actors, or movie icons.
The transvestites are traditional at the festival. Men dressed as women, and women dressed as men , all together on the Day of Fools . Old ladies , young blondes, stunning mulattos , nuns , geishas, super models … you name it… Thousands of San Miguel residents take part of this celebration.
Participants throw candy to spectators so be sure to bring your umbrella for protection.
