Fremont residents Larry and Rosemary Martinez visited San Miguel de Allende

Fremont residents Larry and Rosemary Martinez are just back from San Miguel de Allende, where they saw the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel.

“This beautiful church sits in the center plaza of the old town,” Rosemary says. “The architecture, statues, paintings, etc., are amazing.”

Martinez’ travel tips for SMA: “This is a very walkable city, but definitely wear comfortable, well-cushioned shoes, as the sidewalks are large, uneven cobblestones and the streets are made of river rocks.

Do not rent a car as the streets are very narrow, there is little to no parking and streets leading to the main plaza are closed to traffic. Easiest way to get to and from the city is by shuttle from the airport.

Fremont residents Larry and Rosemary Martinez visited San Miguel de Allende.

“Visit the Cañada de la Virgen, a fairly new archeological excavation site of pyramids, which has only been open to the public since 2010.

Your hotel’s concierge can arrange for an excellent English-speaking guide who will pick you up and return you to the hotel.

It is a half-day tour and well worth it. It is one of the only sites where you are still allowed to walk up the pyramid steps.”
