Bogota, Jun 22 (Notimex).- The company Aeromexico announced today in this capital a third daily flight to cover the Bogota-Mexico City route, an air connection service between the two countries offered for seven years.
The third frequency will begin operations on July 1, the airline’s Corporate Sales Director Jorge Goytortua said in a press conference at ProColombia headquarters.
Colombia “represents an important economic potential for Latin America,” said the executive, who recalled that the country ranked as the fourth international market with a share of 2.8 percent and the first in Latin America.
He noted that in recent years, the number of Colombian visitors to Mexico has grown significantly. In 2016 390 thousand tourists from this country arrived and 163 thousand from Mexico traveled to Colombia.
Likewise, Colombia ranked last year as number two in Latin America with the highest number of tourists visiting Mexico.
“This increase in frequencies from the Colombian capital represents an effort by the Mexican flag carrier to create aerial bridges that benefit the tourism and commercial sectors between both nations, which allows generating great opportunities for Colombia,” said Goytortua.
The meeting with the specialized press also included the director for Colombia of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM, for its acronym in Spanish), Omar Macedo, and the Vice President of Tourism of ProColombia, Julián Guerrero.
The CPTM director in Colombia said that the increase in new flights will allow “more Colombians to know the destinations and attractions of Mexico, business tourism, romance and luxury are segments that we want to position in this market.”
“We will continue working so that Mexico remains one of the main destinations for all Colombians and reaches 440 thousand tourists this year 2017,” said Macedo.
ProColombia pointed out that Mexico is the third country with the highest number of flights per week to this South American country, with a total of 90, so he was confident that the announcement of Aeromexico will allow Mexican tourists to continue showing “the Products of sun, beach, culture, meetings and nature “.
