According to Notimex, the Office of the UN for Human Rights of Mexico invites citizens to share the recommendations of the United Nations to end homophobia and transphobia.
Through an infographics published in its Twitter account @ONUDHmexico, it is suggested to protect people against homophobic and transphobic violence.
Prevent torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detained LGBT persons by prohibiting and punishing such acts and ensuring that reparations are offered to victims.
They seek to repeal laws which criminalize homosexuality, including all that prohibit private sexual conduct that is consented by adults of the same sex.
It calls for a ban on discrimination based on gender orientation and identity and for safeguarding the freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly of LGBT and intersex individuals.
“The steps to combat these abuses are well established, from the decriminalization of relations between people of the sexes to the application of comprehensive anti-discrimination measures. Education is also needed to end homophobia at its root, “said Navi Pillay.
Pillay, a South African lawyer, a former anti-apartheid activist and the first woman to join the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1995, was named High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2008.
