In the framework of the 9th anniversary of San Miguel de Allende and the “Atotonilco Sanctuary” UNESCO’s designation as World Heritage, the city of San Miguel will host the National Congress of World Heritage from July 4 to 7. It should be noted that this event is strategically designed to trigger the Convention Tourism market nationwide.
During the last five years, this congress has been consolidated as an open forum, where different actors can talk about World Heritage, and dozens of participating speakers will also be able to present their different works and projects, and to be listened by thousands of attendees.
This Congress grants scholarships to over 1,500 university students in San Miguel, who have developed sustainable projects in multiple areas of management of historic centers and world heritage monuments.
THE PROGRAM
The 2017 inaugural conference will be in charge of Sergio Zaldívar Guerra, an architect specialist in the restoration of the Metropolitan Cathedral in México City.
Regarding Archaeology, Dr. Eduardo Matos Moctezuma will talk about the “Templo Mayor” project, which has been carried out during a period of four decades.
Archaeologists Raúl Barrera, Lorena Vázquez along with Rodrigo Bolaños will show the latest discoveries such as “Huei Tzampantli” in Tenochtitlán and its osteological remains recently dicovered.
On the other hand, Dr. Sergio Vergara will address the challenges of the Historical Center of Puebla, thirty years after its declaration as a World Heritage Site.
URBAN DEVELOPMENT
The urbanist José Luis Cortés Delgado, president of the Federation of Colleges of Architects of the Mexican Republic (Federacion de Colegios de Arquitectos de la Republica Mexicana), will expose the importance of heritage in the urban development of Mexico.
The specialist in organic architecture, Javier Senosiain, will unveil the intimate relation between the constructions designated as world heritage and the environment.
Finally, Professor David Jiménez, a delegate from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Guanajuato, will be participating in the event, showing the public works carried out during the last years.
