SCT approves expansion of Querétaro’s Intercontinental Airport

The Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes: SCT) approved the public works that will be carried out for the expansion of the Intercontinental Airport of Querétaro (AIQ), and recognized the urgent necessity to increase the competitive advantages of the aforementioned air terminal.

Through the Official Federal Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federacion: DOF), it’s been informed that the Agency of Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) have conducted the corresponding technical studies and projections.

These studies determined that the land located in the municipality of “El Marqués” is the most appropriate and suitable for the expansion of the local airport due to specific characteristics that are required for this kind of infrastructure, as well as its location right next to the AIQ.

In this sense, the Official Federal Gazette (DOF) approved the “public utility” of a surface area of ​​486,455.00 square meters, located in the municipality of “El Marqués” for the expansion project.

Francisco Domínguez Servién, Governor of Querétaro, declared: “We expect an investment of $150 million pesos for this project, resources that correspond to the Intercontinental Airport of Querétaro, thanks to the financial liquidity achieved by the Querétaro’s terminal.

The Official Gazette recognized Querétaro Intercontinental Airport as one of the most important air terminals nationwide due to its strategic location, its connectivity with northern Mexico through the “México-Piedras Negras” highway and the railroad crossing near by.

Additionally, this air terminal offers excellent facilities and different kind of services to satisfy local and foreign users.

The airport infrastructure holds international certifications, offering favorable conditions for air traffic and airport operations with high levels of security, profitability and efficiency.
