Huesca, Spain Jun. 12 (Notimex) .- Three Mexican short films compete in the Official Section of the 45th Huesca International Film Festival, which will present 17 world premieres in their three categories: documentary, international and Ibero-American.
This year’s edition featured a total of 80 short films from 31 countries, including the three Mexican short films: “La familia Hernández Cruz” (The Hernández Cruz family) by Anaïs Pareto Onghena and “Lucha” by Eddie Rubio, both competing in the category of Ibero-American, while “Los prisioneros de Korsakoff” (Prisoners of Korsakoff), by Indra Villaseñor, competes in the Documentary category.
The 45th edition of the Huesca International Film Festival takes place in the Northeastern Spain city from June 9 to the 17. For the organization of the contest, Mexico has again a strong presence in this festival, being one of the Latin American countries with more representation, along with Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

The director of the contest, Azucena Garanto, said that the catalytic function of new talent of the festival is once again clear with the selection of 18 prime operas that are intertwined with big names of the seventh art.
Among them are the director Isabel Coixet, selected with her latest documentary “No es tan fría Siberia” (Siberia is not that cold), director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo with “Cheimaphobia” or Santiago Zannou with “Vernon walks“, a short film written by Ray Loriga, winner of the Alfaguara de Novela prize.
In addition, works from Europe, Asia, America and Africa will compete for the Danzante Prize of each category and the pre-selection for the Oscars in the category of Best Short Fiction. The festival adds to its list of awards in this edition the prize for best script.
In this edition of the competition 31 short films compete in the International category, 32 in the Ibero-American and 17 in documentary. The works were selected out of 658 received from a total of 31 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
Spain is the country with the highest representation, with a total of 19 short films; Along with France, Germany, Belgium and Brazil, with five works each.
Other cinematography industries with strong roots in the Festival, such as Mexico or the United States, also get an outstanding performance, with three shorts each.
The 45th edition registers an increase in the number of participating countries, compared to last year, when therer were only 24.
This festival opens the door to cinematography in countries such as Costa Rica, Israel, Iran, Indonesia, South Africa and South Korea; evidencing a global, universal and inclusive perspective.
