Merida expats demonstrate and sign petition for Trump’s impeachment

MERIDA, Yucatan — Approximately 50 American expats in Yucatan gathered Sunday afternoon July 2 on Merida’s Paseo de Montego to sign a petition calling for the impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump.

All signers of that petition are registered voters and intend to vote for anything that will help remove Trump from office.

Several discussions took place about Trump’s attitude toward Mexicans, a subject that the crowd found particularly disturbing. Other conversations included Trump’s childish behavior, his attitude toward immigrants/women and the hope that he will not be president for the remainder the his term.

Not a single voice was heard in support of Trump. The sizeable crowd easily had more people than the crowd in Merida that celebrated his inauguration.

In a press release issued last week announcing Sunday’s event, organizers stated, “Donald J.Trump’s leadership poses a threat to the peace and safety of the United States on both national and international levels. His immoral reputation, inability to perform his duties, clear incompetence and misconduct should no longer be tolerated by citizens of the United States. His actions are an embarrassment and threat to the freedoms, values and constitution of the United States of America.”
