Mexico and Colombia announce dual year

Mexico and Colombia inaugurated the dual year between the two nations, seeking to strengthen their relationship of friendship and collaboration.

The Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray Caso, and Colombian ambassador to Mexico, Patricia Cárdenas Santamaria, announced yesterday that the dual year will be carried out in two phases: the second half of 2017 will be dedicated to Colombia’s presence in Mexico and the first half of 2018 will be about Mexican culture in Colombia.

As part of this duality, Casa Colombia will be inaugurated nextNovember in Mexico. Ambassador Patricia Cárdenas celebrated that after 14 years of launching the initiative, this house dedicated to culture will open its doors in the Historic Center of Mexico City.

Videgaray said that the dual year will further strengthen relations between the two countries in cultural, educational, entrepreneurship, trade, and investment issues, and highlighted the strategic importance of the South American country in Mexico’s foreign policy.

“The implementation of the year Colombia-Mexico is an example of the close friendship between the two nations and also has the objective of bringing the artistic expressions of both countries together,” said the official.

In the announcement made at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(SRE), Videgaray took the opportunity to acknowledge the government of Colombia, headed by Juan Manuel Santos, for the recent peace process.

Ambassador Cárdenas Santamaría said that the relationship between Colombia and Mexico has a strategic partnership and about 40 cooperation agreements in areas such as security, environment, science, technology, and control of illicit traffic, among others.
