42 Japanese companies invest 4.6 billion pesos in Querétaro

Legal certainty and the availability of human talent are two of the main factors that bring more and more Japanese capital to the state of Querétaro, whose investment coming from this country in the last six years has grown by 200 percent and is already positioned as the seventh nation with the highest Foreign Direct Investment in Querétaro.

These are 42 companies with a value exceeding 4.6 billion pesos (263 million USD), that today employ more than 15 thousand Queretanos in the sectors of auto parts, electrical and electronics, as well as in the chemical, plastic and rubber industries.

The Asian investment is located in the municipalities of Querétaro, San Juan del Rio and El Marqués, presence that now seeks to extend to Colon as well as Corregidora.

The biggest Japanese boom is still yet to come. The start of operations of the Toyota plant at Apaseo El Grande in the summer of 2019, already has a “list” of supplying companies standing in line waiting for an opportunity to collaborate with this firm.

There is also a group of local entrepreneurs seeking to reach out the executives and workers of this cluster, in order to offer real estate services to the new temporary or permanent residents arriving to Querétaro from this and other nations.

According to the National Chamber of the Industry of Transformation (Canacintra), the bajío region (and Querétaro in particular) will reach a figure of 100 companies coming from “the country of the rising sun”, in the next 5 or 6 years.
