6.8 tremor shakes Mexico City on the anniversary of the 1985 earthquake

At 1 pm this afternoon, an earthquake with an intensity of 6.8 points in the Richter scale was recorded, according to the Richter scale in Mexico City, the epicenter was located seven kilometers west of Chiautla de Tapia.

Citizens left immediately from their homes and jobs, the earthquake was also felt in Oaxaca, Guerrero and Pachuca.
The telephone lines are saturated, so it is recommended to the population to use instant messaging; it seems like there is significative material damage in Mexico City, Puebla and Cuernavaca.


The earthquake occurred on the anniversary of the earthquake on September 19, 1985.

During the morning of today, dozens of buildings were evacuated in the country’s capital, after 11am warning alarms were activated, as part of a simulation that takes place every year on Sep 19, reports La Jornada.

Just over four million people participated in this massive civil protection exercise.
