Mexico’s federal government considers it feasible to open a new petrochemical plant in Guanajuato that would help to reduce the energy sources currently imported from other countries, said Energy Secretary Pedro Joaquín Coldwell.
This in response to the approach made by the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Bajío, on the advisability of promoting the construction of a petrochemical plant in Guanajuato, to detonate the economic growth of the region.
“Yes it could be viable, but at this moment I am not aware of this investment, because it wil come from the private sector.”
On the benefits that this project could bring, Joaquín Coldwell explained: “It would improve the state’s industrial plant, the proper environmental friendly practices would be carry out, a good number of direct and indirect jobs would be generated, and the country will be able to save millions by producing the petrochemical products that we import today.”
“We are a country that imports 60% of the petrochemical goods it consumes, so anything that helps improve our trade balance is a beneficial for our economy,” the Energy Secretary added.
The Secretary of Energy was one of the three federal secretaries who participated in the CITEK Forum on Wednesday October 4, at the Fox Center, in addition to Jose Antonio Meade (SHCP), and Aurelio Nuño Mayer (SEP).
