Polish tourist robbed on bus trip to Merida, Yucatán

When she arrived at her hotel in Merida, Yucatán, she realized that her purse was missing with all her money, credit cards, cell-phone and passport.

MERIDA — Mrs. Magdalena Zacharewycz reported that on  Sunday November 12 with another 12 of her compatriots she boarded a bus of the ADO line in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, bound for Merida, Yucatán.

Around nine o’clock in the morning they arrived at the ADO terminal in Mérida, where a van from the tourist company that they had hired was waiting for them. They uploaded their belongings and boarded the vehicle that took them to the hotel “María del Carmen”, on 63rd street between 66th and 68th in Merida downtown, where they had reservations.

When she checked her luggage to take out her wallet and pay for hotel services, the woman noticed that her purse, with a kangaroo-type wallet, had been stolen. She fell into a nervous breakdown because she had money in euros, dollars and Mexican pesos, in addition to her cell-phone, banking cards and official documents (including her passport).

The authorities were informed, for which reason an agent of the municipal tourist police arrived, who established communication with the affected. They explained to her that the Police Department couldn’t do anything at that moment and she would have to file her complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office so that the case could be investigated.

To the place arrived agents of the state police department, they took the declaration of the tourist and they repeated to her that she should go ahead and denounce the robbery.

Through her translator, the visitor said that her vacation in Yucatan ended before it even started and that she leaves the state very disappointed.

Among her traveling companions, they collected money to pay for accommodation and expenses while the woman recovered her cards and documents to return to her country of origin.
