Art sale to benefit scholarship programs in SMA: Dec. 6th

San Miguel’s most popular activities center around art, and what better way to support scholarship programs than with an art sale with art from well-known Mexican artists who will be pricing their work in uniquely affordable ways?

Make plans now to attend a grand art sale Wednesday, December 6, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Casa Correo, Correo 38. All sales will benefit Jovenes Adelante’s university scholarships for local Mexican honors students who otherwise could not attend university; and Empoderando Juventudes, which grants scholarships to Latin American youth for their participation in public affairs that build peace and social justice.

“Empowering Latin America scholarships allow Latin American youth to participate in our annual conference/training regardless of their ability to pay,” said Patricio Provencio, General coordinator of Empoderando Juventudes. Each scholarship is equivalent to $6,200.00 MXN ($360.00 USD) and includes meals, lodging, transportation within the host city, workshop materials and activities and personal accident insurance for the duration of the course.
During those workshops, students aged teen to twenties get to mingle with others from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, ideologies, cultures and countries. Meanwhile, they learn to analyze and reflect on the economic, political, and social environmental realities and problems present in Latin America and the world. They build lifelong friendships and collaborative relationships. They develop skills to be active, conscientious, analytical, and empathetic citizens committed to the wellbeing of people and communities. Additionally, they learn how to sustain these qualities while promoting human rights for all and the care and protection of the environment.
Jovenes Adelante’s scholarship sponsors donate the equivalent of $4 USD/day for five years to ensure that their students not only complete university but also their mandatory internships. The result is that 85 percent of JA’s students graduate, a much larger percentage than in the US, Canada or elsewhere in Mexico. This helps them break the cycles of historic economic disparity in their families.
“Jovenes Adelante is honored to have been invited to participate in this benefit with Patricio and his wonderful international team building a better future for Latin America,” said Angelica Arguelles, executive director of JA.
Donors to Empoderando Juventudes may receive tax deductibility in Mexico. Donors to JA may receive tax deductibility in Mexico, the US, and/or Canada.
