Christmas in San Miguel… live it to believe it

Mexico has endless destinations to choose from like Cancún, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City.

It’s no surprise that San Miguel de Allende doesn’t always register on everyone’s “must visit” list. However, this picturesque town in the hills of Guanajuato is the ideal weekend getaway. It’s blessed with perfect weather, timeless colonial architecture, delicious food and fascinating shops.

San Miguel de Allende truly comes alive over Christmas. During the day, wander around the town’s narrow cobblestone alleys to discover hidden shops and cafes. For something further off the beaten track, head to De Temporada Farm Restaurant. You’ll be rewarded with a delicious, truly farm-to-table meal. At night, make your way to the central plaza for some serious sensory overload. You can grab mouthwatering (and ridiculously cheap) tacos while enjoying live music at the foot of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel. If that’s not your style, head up to one of the town’s many rooftop bars for beautiful sunset views.

It had been awhile since I traveled alone with my parents. As I’m sure many of you can relate to, family vacations are a true test of patience. While we had our fair share of arguments, I’m happy to report that we all survived (relatively) unscathed! I’ve learned to appreciate and cherish family time more and more with each passing year. It may sound very sappy, but it’s true. I created a short video (along with some accompanying photos) to help relive the memories. Enjoy!
