Explosion in San Miguel leaves 3 injured and significant material damages

An explosion caused by the accumulation of gas in a building of Fraccionamiento Capilla de Piedra en San Miguel de Allende on Saturday January 13, left three people injured, one of them serious, and damage to buildings and vehicles in the area.

The explosion was recorded at 8:10 on Saturday January 13 and caused the roof of the apartment, located on the second floor, to collapse leaving four people under the rubble.

The injured are two women, one of them 63 years old, and a 30 year old man. They were all transferred to a hospital by Red Cross paramedics, with the support of the Ministry of Health. Two more victims received attention minutes after the detonation and one more victim was finally found alive after six hours of search and rescue maneuvers vy firefighters and agents of Civil Protection and military.

The explosion caused damage to doors and windows of buildings located up to 400 meters away; some structures were haremed too, including hotel-boutique La Puertecita.

Agents of Civil Protection and the Fire Department supported the remaining structure with wooden timbers in order not to put more lives at risk, informed the Municipal Presidency.

Experts conducted a review of the properties in Capilla de Piedra and Santo Domingo, as well as other subdivisions located near the site of the explosion.

According to preliminary data from security personnel, in the second level of the four-story building the accumulation of gas triggered the explosion.

The Attorney General of the State began the investigations to determine the causes of the incident, receive the corresponding complaints of the affected establishments and homes and determine responsabilities.
