Silao.- Neighbors of El Crucero requested the authorities of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) to take over the building of the former Silao railway station so that it does not deteriorate anymore, as it is being used as a warehouse by the Mexican Railroad concessionaire “Ferromex” (Ferrocarriles Mexicanos) .
The request was sent a couple of months ago by a general committee of local residents, headed by Estela Gutiérrez, who a few weeks ago asked the support of Governor Miguel Márquez to suspend the work of the fence that is being built next to the Railroad tracks.
“They wanted to put up a fence, but fortunately that work has been suspended. The local residents of this area feel that we have the commitment to rescue this beautiful historical building, which is a cultural heritage of our region and is now covered by a wall one one side, next to the Alameda” said Luis Alberto Araujo, a resident of El Crucero.
Locals consider that this property needs to be restored and turned into a museum by INAH authorities, since this railroad station reflects the historic, economic and social development of Silao.
