Economy grows 1.1% in the first quarter, according to INEGI

According to preliminary figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INEGI) on Monday April 30, México’s economy expanded 1.1% in the January-March 2108 period, compared to the previous quarter, mainly driven by the services sector.

Divided by components, tertiary activities (services) grew by 1.2%, primary by 0.8% and secondary by 0.7% from the previous quarter, informed the INEGI in a report.

According to original figures, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the second Latin American economy grew by 1.2% in the first quarter against the same period of the previous year.

The Government estimates that by the end of 2018, the GDP will show an expansion in the range of 2.0-3.0%.

The final GDP figures for the first quarter will be published on May 23, 2018.
