Arturo Pablo Liévano, prosecutor of Chiapas, strongly believes that the foreign cyclists who were reported missing in tht state, disappeared at kilometer 158 of the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Ocosingo mountain road.
On May 3, the State General Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) reported the finding of a corpse, who is allegedly the Polish citizen Krzysztof Chmielewski. However, they are still looking for the other person, a German citizen, that goes by the name of Holger Franz, as local authorities only found his bicycle and one of his shoes.
“The results of the necropsy do not show any type of injury that leads us to assert that they were caused by violence, the body was found, in a relatively advanced state of decomposition but without signs of violence,” said Liévano in an interview with Mexican jounalist Ciro Gómez Leyva from Grupo Imagen.
However, “the hypothesis is that, on kilometer 158 of the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Ocosingo highway, which is a very rugged, narrow and winding road, the Polish cyclist somehow lost control and fell into a 200-meter deep ravine, and the line of investigation sustains that both cyclists could’ve lost control and fell into the ravine” he said.
Lievano concluded that both cyclists were traveling together along the state of Chiapas, and that the local authorities are already in communication with the embassies of Germany and Poland.
German national Holger Franz (or his body), has not been found yet, though. And Chiapas authorities say that the investigation is ongoing to find his whereabouts.
