According to Banderas News, “El Día Nacional del Tequila” is a reality! As of 2019, the third Saturday of each March will be “National Tequila Day” in Mexico, as established by a decree published in El Diario Oficial de la Federación (the Official Gazette of the Federation, or DOF).

The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) published the order signed by President Enrique Peña Nieto on April 26 to promote national and international consumption of the Mexican drink par excellence.

The National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT) seeks to make tequila the spirit with the greatest growth projection in the world by the year 2021. According to information collected by the Notimex agency, Tequila will have a annual compound growth rate of 3.2%, exceeded only by whiskey.

Tequila is the designation of origin that includes all beverages made from agave distillate produced in certain regions of Mexico such as Tequila and Amatitán, as well as in Arandas and Atotonilco el Alto in the Los Altos area of Jalisco, and in Nayarit in municipalities like Ixtlán del Río. It is also made in certain areas of Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Tamaulipas.
