Guanajuato International Film Festival promotes organ donation

During the presentation of the campaign “Donate Dreams, Donate Life” (Dona sueños, dona vida), as part of the XXI edition of the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) it was announced that Guanajuato is home to 1,500 Mexicans of the nearly 14,000 who now need a kidney transplant in Mexico.

Rodrigo López Falcony, Director of the State Transplant Center, highlighted the social part of the GIFF 2018 with topics of great importance such as organ donation.

“Talking about statistics and numbers is cold, this is a program that comes from the heart, of goodwill and from the understanding that there are thousand of people on the waiting list that hope to continue living.”

In Mexico 14 thousand people expect a kidney and in Guanajuato more than 10 percent of the national waiting list live in the state. 10 new patients join the waiting list every month.

Guanajuato has the largest network of organs in the country and highlighted the work of the State Congress representatives, because they have legislated to make children a priority when it comes to organ donation.
