NEW FEATURES
We are excited to announce several new features this year.
In an event called, “The Interviews,” much beloved Canadian talk show host and seasoned interviewer Hal Wake will conduct on-stage interviews with three of our keynote speakers, for a more personal and in-depth experience with each of them.
The “Literary Death Match” is groundbreaking literary entertainment. The originator of the event, Adrian Todd Zuniga, will lead us in an electrifying, feel-good literary event that is part comedy show, part game show. Four writers who will have applied to participate will compete in an edge-of-your-seat read off critiqued by three celebrity judges to decide the ultimate champion. Already a hit in sixty cities, the Literary Death Match now comes to San Miguel! Not to be missed!
Watch for street entertainers stationed around the Conference campus to entertain and astound you.
Our all-new-and-different Corazón de México Fiesta will take place in the bullring that is part of Real de Minas Hotel. We have addedElite Seating for the first twenty people who select this especially fun treat! Always the party of the year, this Fiesta will outdo all the others with new surprises galore!
PANELS
All panels are open to the public by individual ticket. They are a chance to meet our distinguished faculty in lively conversations with each other on critical topics of today.
Women’s Voices
Five gifted women authors will read selections that resonate from a place both deep and heartfelt. Followed by audience participation. This is always a moving, inspiring, and emotional event. Please note, this event is not included in any Conference packages, except Whole Enchilada. The separate ticket sales benefit our Libros Para Todos and My First Book literary projects in rural communities.
Co-Cultural Panel: Writing and Reading Across Borders
As both writers and readers, we often delve deeply into cultures other than our own. Writers from four different cultures shed light on their decisions about what they write and how their decisions affect their work.
Writers and Freedom of Expression – Cosponsored with PEN
Writers the world over are being imprisoned and murdered for telling stories the powerful do not want readers to see. Or they are subjected to insidious pressures that threaten to muzzle them. This panel discusses the state of freedom of expression in the world today.
Other panels will cover these topics: making a living as a writer, book publicity, memoir writing, and agents.
