The animated film “Coco” became the most condecorated picture of the 33rd Imagen awards, which recognizes the best performances and productions made by Latinos in the United States.
The Pixar film, whose story takes place during the Day of the Dead, won Best Film, Best Director and Creative Achievement awards, during the Gala that took place at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
“We started” Coco “with a simple thing in mind: a note of love for Mexico, for all the beauty of its people, the traditions and the depth of love that exists within Mexican families,” said Alonso Martínez, the character’s designer of the film .
Anthony González, who played the starring role of Miguel in the film, shared his hopes that Coco’s story could continue in a new project, either a theatrical play, a live-action adaptation or an animation sequel.
“If there was a possibility, I would love to be part of it. I hope there is a sequel even if I’m not in it. I would love to see more about Miguel, what he is up to these days, what is he doing. I would love to know about his relationship with your new little sister, “he said.
Later, the actor, accompanied by the trio Ellas made an interpretation of “Remember Me”, theme of the movie that won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
The Image Awards, founded in 1985 by Norman Lear, seek to encourage and recognize positive representations of Latinos in the media.
