In the last two years, International Living magazine has selected Mexico as one of five options to live after retirement, based on pleasant weather, natural beauty, good medical care, healthy lifestyle and affordability.
The top five cities for retirees to live in are Valladolid, in Yucatán; Cozumel, in Quintana Roo; Costalegre, in Jalisco; Guanajuato, Gto. and Aguascalientes, Ags., according to an analysis by Vivanuncios, real estate portal of Ebay.
Valladolid
Valladolid, in Yucatán, enjoys tranquility and security. It emphasizes its architectural and colonial beauty. It has a strategic location as it is the meeting point between Mérida, Yucatán and Cancún, Quintana Roo, and it is near several of the most important Maya archaeological sites, such as Chichen Itza and Ek Balam.
Regarding properties, buying a typical colonial house in the center of Valladolid has an average cost of 10 million pesos. However, there are modern options in the vicinity ranging from 700,000 to 4,000,000 pesos.

Cozumel
Being a Caribbean island with the most crystalline waters of the country makes Cozumel one of the most coveted areas to live.
Also, despite the tourism and the technological growth that has presented, is an important reference for the culture and the Maya customs, that can be appreciated in the archaeological zones and the architectonic mixture of the island.
It is important to consider that, being an island and a highly tourist area, public services are a little higher in the rest of the country. However, it has two great advantages over other destinations in the area: it is one of the safest municipalities in the country, and the housing offer ranges from 800,000 to 5,000,000 pesos, even though properties can exceed the 15,000,000 pesos in ocean side areas.

Costalegre
Jalisco has an endless number of ideal villages for retirement, such as Ajijic, Puerto Vallarta and Costalegre, the latter chosen for its numerous pristine beaches and ecotourism activities.
Costalegre is located on a coastline of the Pacific Ocean between the port of Manzanillo, Colima, and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
Its popularity among retired people comes from the fact of being a quiet town with great cultural roots typical of the state, which can be admired through the festivities that take place throughout the year.
The average prices of this region are in the neighborhood of 2 million pesos.

Guanajuato
Guanajuato is one of the most accessible cities to live in, although it is very difficult to find a property in the traditional downtown zone for less than 4,000,000 pesos.
In this city, the colonial architecture, its alleys, parks, monuments and even restaurants are simply outstanding.

Aguascalientes is one of the emerging proposals that promises a prosperous quality of life to those who wish to move there. In addition to having a pleasant temperate climate, it offers one of the most unique colonial settings.
