“Thanks to the policies of integral development for agriculture, Guanajuato occupies the 4th place at the national level in the production of corn, according to the Agrifood and Fishing Information System -SIAP 2017”-, declared Governor, Miguel Márquez Márquez.

“Guanajuato, Mexico, has become an important provider of vegetables and berries to Mexicans and to a large part of the world” he said.

In presiding over the inauguration of the First Edition of the International Maize Fair Guanajuato 2018 “Innovating the value network of corn”, the governor highlighted that Guanajuato’s LANGEBIO research center discovered the corn genome, which will allow a greater use of this basic grain in Mexico and around the world.

“To speak of corn is to speak of Mexico all over the world, corn is essentially Mexican, it is a product of Mexico for the world, from this grain more than 700 byproducts are derived. Corn has presence in the world market, corn is fundamental for the life of the human being, we are talking about a product of which we should feel proud” Marquez continued.

He mentioned that in Guanajuato thanks to the processes of research and innovation in the genetics of corn, seeds have been developed that allow greater profitability in production, adaptation to climate and less use of water, among other advantages.

“We have to learn from other countries and states on the subject of corn, so this grain remains a vital element for human beings” he said.

The State Executive, announced that the International Maize Fair, in its first edition has Brazil and Michoacán as guests of honor. The Southamerican country and the Mexican state are both positioned as two of the main producers and sellers of corn in the world.
