Mexico, Sep. 7 (Notimex).- The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Roberto Campa Cifrián, said that the country has joined the global efforts that seek the interrelation between the skills of workers and employment, given the technological changes that they will modify the labor market, and that require coordination between education and labor policies.

When attending the G20 meeting, he reported on the importance of promoting opportunities for people to readjust and update their skills throughout their working lives, and can successfully take advantage of the changes.

Mexico adopted the Joint Declaration of Ministers of Education and Ministers of Labor and Employment of the G20, in which they announce that they will continue to prepare people, from childhood, and into adulthood, to develop skills for the 21st century, including digital skills, given its growing importance and demand, both in existing jobs and in recent jobs.

“It requires constant updating of the educational curriculum according to labor requirements, for this we must strategically approach educational institutions with work centers, and design complementary systems for training and generating new skills,” he said.

He considered that not only young people require this implementation, also women, older adults require specific attention. Therefore, he stressed, policies must be generated so that the effects derived from the demographic bonus do not have negative impacts on this group of workers,” said Campa Cifrián during his presentation at the Plenary of the G20.

In front of the Ministers, he recalled that last month the Ministry of Labor of Mexico together with the OECD and with academic institutions, organized the World 4T World Forum, Technology, Work and Transformation for All.

This allowed to exchange points of view on the subject of the future of work, in this era of changes in the exponential technologies that we live today, and that present challenges in all areas.

“These changes require us,” Campa Cifrián said, timely and effective responses, which we must build together.
