San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, has become one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country. Hundreds of tourists from all over the globe -mainly from the US- arrive in this city to spend some days of rest, party, good food and luxury, in the midst of the ingrained traditions of the place.
The Day of the Dead will not be the exception. In addition to the traditional parades of catrinas and the altars that surround the main garden and the Parish of San Miguel Arcangel, the 2018 Calaca Festival will delight attendees with festivities, music, movies, talks and conferences about life and death.
Festival of the Calaca 2018: movies, music and parties until dawn
From November 1 to 4, during the 2018 Calaca Festival, there will be feature presentations by the Guanajuato International Film Festival in several venues, at least two hours of TED talks about life and death, and themed parties.
The Restaurant, a place of international signature cuisine (with a Mexican touch), will host the first day of the festival on the night of November 1.
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November, the party will be starred by electronic music: Xantolo, at the Casitabel Ranchito, from midnight to dawn and La Calaca Pool Party, in the thermal waters of Taboada. Access to both parties is 800 pesos per person.
Art in various forms will titillate the senses, from light shows, live installations on real models, paintings, and more which interpret the themes of Dia de los Muertos, there is simply no other south American festival like it. In fact, you might even be turned into a work of art yourself by one of the local artists!
For the three days of the festival, there will also be amazing workshops, installations to explore, cemetery tours (get up close and personal with the dead!), and much more to enjoy.
