Have you always dreamed of buying an old house in Italy or France? Change that goal to Turkey or Greece and you may find the dream is more affordable than you imagined.

Analysts from Homes.com looked at real estate data from 36 developed (OECD) countries and calculated the places where you’ll get the most home for the least money. By these rankings, Turkey is the most affordable country for home shoppers, with an average cost of $69 per square foot. No. 2 for affordability is Mexico, where the average dwelling comes in at $90.10 a square foot (by the rough math, that could get you a 1,000-square-foot dwelling for around $90,000). Russia and Latvia come in at three and four, while Greece, with an average of $149 a square foot, rounds out the top five.

Switzerland, at $967 (or roughly 10 times the average cost in Mexico), is the most expensive. And the USA might surprise you with its relative affordability.

See the slideshow above for the rankings, from cheapest to most expensive.
