Pirelli has produced 20 million tyres in its Guanajuato plant

Pirelli & C. S.p.A. is a multinational company based in Milan, Italy, it is the 5th largest tyre manufacturer behind Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental and Goodyear, and is focused on the consumer business (tyres for cars, motorcycles and bicycles).

The origin of Pirelli dates back to 1872, the year Giovanni Battista Pirelli founded a limited partnership, “G.B. Pirelli & C.”, in Milan to produce elastic rubber items.

In 2012, Pirelli opened the Silao plant (near León Guanajuato), the first one of the Group in Mexico, which was intended to produce Premium tyres to supply the great demand of the North American market.

And on December 2018, Pirelli consolidated its contribution to the industrial, economic and social development of the state of Guanajuato, with a record production of 20 million tires.

“In only 7 years, Pirelli Silao reached this production record which positions it as its third most productive plant worldwide and  95 percent of its employees at the plant are born and raised in our beloved state of Guanajuato”, said governor, Diego Sinhué Rodríguez Vallejo.

“Pirelli was one of the first companies to establish it’s plant within the Puerto Interior industrial zone, and its arrival represented the consolidation of the most dynamic automotive cluster in Latin America,” the state governor continued.

“Our policies in terms of attracting investment, have been the success of Guanajuato in job generation and arrival of international companies such as Pirelli” he added.

“Confidence in Guanajuato and its human capital generates positive productive expectations for investors worldwide, since it demonstrates how well things are done here. And this new production record means more and better jobs for the people of Guanajuato.  We must take into consideration that when the Pirelli plant opened the facility had only 28 employees and today they have more than 2,500 employees”, Rodríguez Vallejo concluded.
