San Miguel de Allende is officially declared “American Capital of Culture” at local Congress

San Miguel de Allende hosted the LXIV Legislature of the Congress of the State of Guanajuato with the Solemn Session in the framework of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Generalissimo Don Ignacio de Allende y Unzaga, in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, ” American Capital of Culture. ”

The governor of the state Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo thanked the invitation to the celebration of the generalissimo and the declaration of “American Capital of Culture.”

“Friends, our most sincere congratulations and recognition to San Miguel de Allende”, said the governor.



He said that during these moments that the country is going through, it is important to have those feelings of courage, just like Allende had.

The mayor of San Miguel de Allende Luis Alberto Villarreal read the biography of the Generalissimo Don Ignacio de Allende y Unzaga, and narrated a brief episode of his life and his integration to The Dragons of the Queen, and how he initiates the Mexico’s independence movement towards the end of 1808.

Claudia Barrera Rangel, president of the Court of Justice of the State of Guanajuato said that the birth of one of the most important insurgents in the country was verified, he called him a “fundamental actor in the Mexican Independence movement” and added that it is a privilege to witness the meeting of the three powers of the nation during the celebration of San Miguel’s designation as “American Capital of Culture” , and the birthday of one of the nation’s most important heroes.
