As we reported on the San Miguel Times on Monday Feb. 11, the man that got killed as he was taking his son to school, turned out to be Edgardo González, the director of the Valle de Santiago Penitentiary .

This was the second attack in less than a week against prison wardens in Guanajuato, as on Thursday Feb 6th, a chief officer of the Pénjamo CERESO was shot outside his home.

35 year-old Edgardo Gonzalez, was traveling in a yellow sedan car with his 15-year-old son, when a motorcycle blocked their way, while a van stopped beside them and shots were made against their vehicle, killing the driver and injuring his son.

González Sandoval, as a worker in prisons was involved in two acts that deserved recommendations from the Human Rights Ombudsman of the State of Guanajuato, both for committing abuses against inmates, in the state capital and Leon, respectively.

It was published on periodicocorreo.com.mx that Edgardo González Sandoval was involved in at least two recommendations issued by the Human Rights Ombudsman of the State of Guanajuato, after being accused of certain anomalies or abuses in his performance as head of security in the penitentiaries of León and Guanajuato capital.

It was documented that González Sandoval ordered a detainee to be tied to a pole by his four limbs, and so they kept him immobilized for 19 hours, despite the complaint of a nurse who demanded to untie the man, at the Cecilo de Puentecillas prison in Guanajuato,

The organism recommended to initiate a disciplinary administrative procedure against González Sandoval and three other guardians.

It was also said that on October 20, 2015, Edgardo González Sandoval ordered a group of custodians to enter Dormitory 1, Cell 6, in Cereso de León, to spray tear gas and beat and kick the inmates. The Human Rights organization requested to initiate an administrative proceeding against González Sandoval and eight prison security guards who were involved in this incident.
