Yucatecan journalist declares: “if anything happens to me, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to blame”

Yucatecan jounalist, author and writer Rafael Loret de Mola announced through social networks his departure from journalism, and blamed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for anything that could happen to him or his family.

Just a few days ago, his son, Televisa news anchorman and El Universal columnist Carlos Loret de Mola, reported that he had been threatened with death by the Totoaba Cartel (the Totoaba Cartel specializes in poaching and traffic of the totoaba fish swim bladders, that are highly priced in the Far East, mostly in China and Japan).

Rafael Loret de Mola, Carlos’ father, declared in his message on social networks that there are no guarantees in Mexico to practice journalism with true freedom of speech, and he reiterated that he puts his life in the hands of the president.

Loret de Mola stated: “The life of my son and my own life had been threatened. Anything that happens to us, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to blame. Never in the modern history of our country journalists have been trampled this way by the public power, and I will not tolerate this situation”.

Last Thursday March 28, journalist and TV showhost Carlos Loret de Mola denounced threats of physical aggression and death by the so-called Cartel de la Totoaba, which according to Loret de Mola, has the vaquita marina porpoise on the verge of extinction.
