Celaya, Guanajuato y San Miguel de Allende among the most dangerous municipalities

Celaya heads the index of high impact crimes in the state of Guanajuato from January to April 2019.

However, Celaya is followed by Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Salamanca, Silao, Irapuato, Pueblo Nuevo, Cortazar, San Francisco del Rincon, Tarimoro and Leon, according to the number of crimes for every 100 thousand inhabitants, index presented by the Secretariat of Public Security, during the State Security Council meeting that took place on Friday May 24th.

The report included crimes such as: femicide, intentional homicide, fraudulent injuries, robbery at home, business, vehicle, bank robbery, cattle robbery, vehicle theft, rape, kidnapping and extortion.

The state of Guanajuato occupies the 11th place in the index of high impact crimes nationwide. The first five are: Baja California, Quintana Roo, Aguascalientes, Queretaro and Jalisco, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Security System also presented during the Council meeting.

In the general criminal index (per 100 thousand inhabitants) within the state, the city of Guanajuato is first, Celaya second, San Miguel de Allende thirid, followed by Irapuato, Silao, Cortazar, Salamanca and León.

In terms of intentional homicides, the municipalities of Pueblo Nuevo, Santiago Maravatío, Salamanca, Salvatierra and Abasolo top the list. 20 of the 46 municipalities in the state have a rate higher than 16 homicides per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Municipalities with a rate of “zero” are: Atarjea, Coroneo, Santa Catarina and Xichú.

In the first four months of the year, five cases of femicide have been registered in the state (four in Celaya and one in San Miguel de Allende). And four cases of kidnapping (two in Salamanca, one in Salvatierra and one more in Yuriria).

In terms of home robbery, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Coroneo, Silao and Doctor Mora top the list.

While in business robbery, Celaya, León, Salamanca, Guanajuato and Irapuato are the top 5. And in vehicle theft, Celaya, Cortazar, Pueblo Nuevo, Apaseo el Grande and Salamanca.

Finally, talking about the crime of rape, Tarimoro, Ocampo, Doctor Mora, Guanajuato and Tierra Blanca are the five municipalities that register the largest number of rapes per 100 thousand inhabitants.
