Guanajuato state is number one when it comes to cop killing in Mexico during the first four months of 2019. Not to mention that, Guanajuato closed 2018 at the top of the list in this subject, followed by Guerrero and the State of Mexico.
According to NGO Causa Común, 14 police officers (four of them in Irapuato), have been killed in the state of Guanajuato from January 1st to May 3rd, when two policemen were shot dead and one more injured, .
The statistics reflect a serious situation that’s been going on or several years now. Allegedly, criminal groups are in dispute of the territory (huachicoleros, drug dealers, kidnappers, thieves, extortionists you name it), and the state has become one of the most violent in Mexico.
In 2019 alone, 126 security agents were killed in all of Mexico, and Guanajuato holds 11 percent of the countm in which Irapuato occupies the first place in this statistic followed by Celaya, León, Pénjamo, San Francisco Rincon, Yuriria, Salvatierra and Abasolo.
