The city of San Miguel de Allende was hit by a heavy rain accompanied by huge amounts of hail causing severe damages on roads and neuralgic points of the passage of rainwater.
Serious damages occurred in homes, businesses, and in several streets of the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods, the mix of water and hail reached almost half a meter in height in some places.
Different points of the city were seriously affected, both in the downtown area, as in the suburbs of the city.
Civil Protection stated that the main effects on roads were caused mainly by garbage, fallen trees, branches, rocks and ice that blocked the grilles of storm drains located in the streets of Canal between San Pedro and Rivera, Ancha de San Antonio, as well as on Calle Santo Domingo near the “Hotel Atascadero”.
Authorities also reported that the following streets are still closed to circulation: Santo Domingo, Calle Pocitos to Real de Querétaro section. The access to Colonial Club is obstructed by mud and stones accumulation, Atascadero alley and San Rafael street between San Antonio Abad and San Pedro obstructed by a fallen tree.
In Colonia Infonavit “La Luz”, a house on Ciprés Street flooded with senior citizens inside. The incident was reported and attended by the Red Cross and Civil Protection who placed the residents under protection, and ensure that the house did not suffer more damage.
