All you need to know about GIFF 2019 (but were afraid to ask)

In order to promote and improve the cinematographic culture in Mexico, the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) in its 2019 edition will host the Philippines as the guest country, and will present free workshops, conferences, lectures and feature presentations.

Also attending as special guests are directors and moviestars such as Terry Gilliam and Gus Van Sant, Nicolas Cage, José Carlos Ruíz and Queta Lavat.

The GIFF will take place from July 19 to 23 in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and from July 25 to 28 in the state capital of Guanajuato.

Within the official selection of the GIFF, 10 Mexican feature films will be presented:

In addition, international feature films, short films, children’s films for the whole family, documentaries and virtual reality works will be screened.

Also, films made by students during the 2019 University Rally will be presented.

Besides, the GIFF will be attended by the Oscar-nominated Mexican actress, Yalitza Aparicio. She will be part of an event on July 20 in San Miguel de Allende. And there she will give a lecture about the importance of fighting against gender violence along with a panel of experts.

Guests to the GIFF, such as Terry Gilliam, Gus Van Sant, Kidlat Tahimik, Brillante Mendoza and José Carlos Ruiz will also give very interesting lectures.

GIFF will honor legendary Mexican actress, Queta Lavat, the cutter and restorer of negatives, Guadalupe Ramírez, and actress Charo Santos Concio.

Directors Terry Gilliam, Gus Van Sant and Kidlat Tahimik will also be honored during the festival.

Mr. Nicholas Cage will be the GIFF 2019 guest of honor.

GIFF will offer workshops with professional critics in virtual spaces that revive the experience of the film clubs, on Saturday July 27, in Guanajuato capital.
