AMLO to meet with US congressional delegation, promote USMCA trade deal

MEXICO CITY: Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador declared on Tuesday July 16, that he will tell a delegation of US lawmakers visiting Mexico later on the week that the USMCA trade deal is important for the region, and he called for its ratification by the US Congress.

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has been approved by Mexico’s Senate, but must pass the US and Canadian legislatures before coming into effect.

On Thursday July 18, regarding this visit, Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during his morning press conference:

“We fulfill the commitment to approve and ratify the trade agreement in Mexico. We approved it first because we care about the bilateral relationship with the United States. So that’s why I’m going to meet with the US delegation on Friday July 19.

“They come to hear points of view from all sectors and my position is to conclude with the approval process asap.”
