Two municipal police officers died during an armed confrontation in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, another one is seriously injured.
The attack took place on Tuesday July 23rd, shortly before 2:00 PM. The bodies were lying a few meters from their motorcycles, next to the cobblestone of Independencia Avenue,near the corner with Miguel Malo, in the San Rafael neighborhood.
Apparently the uniformed police officers attended a report of armed people in the place. After the report, there was a persecution towards the exit to Celaya, the police officers on board their motorcycles were chasing the armed suspects, and both of them ended up fatally shot.
The area was cordoned off by State and Municipal police agents, as well as
Civil Protection staff, while State Prosecutors collect information.
The number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty comes to 24 in the state of Guanajuato so far this year. And four of these violent deaths have been registred in less than one week.
