Mexican world-class mountaineer Viridiana Álvarez is an example for all the people in Mexico. Ever since she was a child, she was passionate for sports, tennis, martial arts, swimming and soccer, were among the list of activities she used to practice.

At age 20, she went into track and field, so she decided to participate in 5 and 10 kilometers races, and then became a marathonist, running the Mexico City Marathon.

Afterwards, she was started mountain biking, an activity where she met a group of scouts, with whom she climbed the Orizaba Peak and the Iztaccihuatl.

As of 2014, her story in mountaineering began, when a group of friends invited her to ascend one of the highest mountains in Mexico, and she has not stopped climbing ever since.

Accomplishments

  • Orizaba Peak, Mexico – 5,636 m – 2014
  • Aconcagua, Argentina – 6,962 m – 2015
  • Manaslu, Nepal – 8,156 m- 2015
  • Everest, Himalayas – 8,848 m – 2017
  • K2-, Pakistan, Kashmir, China – 8,611 m – 2018

It should be noted that thanks to her last expedition to K2, the second-highest mountain in the world after the Everest, and considered one of the deadliest fore climbers, because there is a tremendous risk in its descent, Viridiana Álvarez, became the only Latin American woman to reach the top of this mountain.
