On the Frontlines of the Covid 19 War

One of our local organizations now finds itself on the front line of the battle against the coronavirus.  Cruz Roja San Miguel has been serving the community since 1980 with medical, emergency and humanitarian services.  But now, with a new enemy that threatens the health and livelihood of San Miguel de Allende, Cruz Roja has taken on a different role.  The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende presents another in a series of informative presentations about the Covid 19 virus.  Our guest speaker this Tuesday is Terri Kavanagh, fundraising coordinator for Cruz Roja.

Terri will be joined by two associates from Cruz Roja to talk about how the Covid 19 pandemic is impacting their organization locally.  Specifically she will discuss how Cruz Roja has prepared for the crisis including undertaking the enormous costs of purchasing the necessary personal protection equipment,  dedicating an ambulance just for Covid transfers, and the purchase of an isolation capsule.  You’ll also get information on how Cruz Roja has trained local first responders like the Bomberos,  Proteccion Civil, and other private ambulance companies in responding to potential Covid 19 cases.

Teri Kavanagh is a Los Angeles native and a 20 year resident of SMA.  Her work in civil organizations has ranged from brining food to community kitchens with Feed The Hungry, where she served as vice presidents to being one of the co founders of Casa Buenaventura, a USA non profit that provides financing to promising students from Mexico.  Terri also headed up the Directorate of NGO’s of the local government.

As is now our practice of social distancing, the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende has taken to Zoom video conferencing for our weekly meetings.  Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community. Please enter next Tuesday, May 19th at 9:30AM in your calendars for this informative presentation with Terri Kavanagh.  Terri will be joined by an associate and a medic, who will be available for your questions.

While residents continue to self isolate within the safety and comfort of their own homes, members of the public are still welcome to attend our meetings by signing up on the Rotary Club Website at www.rotarysmamidday.org

You’ll receive an email with instructions on being a part of this weeks meeting.
