From March 15 to June 15, 90 cases of domestic violence were registered in SMA, of which 15 involved extreme physical violence.
The period of confinement has brought negative results to the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, as the Municipal Institute for Attention to Women (IMAM) has reported that cases of domestic violence increased during this season.
They mentioned that from March 15 to June 15, 90 cases of domestic violence were reported, in 6 of these cases the Public Ministry issued a restraining order.
Cinthya Sifuentes, director of the IMAM reported that previously to the pandemic, only one case of physical violence was attended in six months and now in three months they already have 15 situations of this type, so it was necessary to seek shelter for the women attacked, for their own safety.
Of the 90 cases of domestic violence, 87 were dealt with through telephone hotlines and three had to be directly attended through the Victim Assistance Module.
Cinthya explained that by dialing 911 (Emergency Call Center), the Specialized Unit for Attention to Gender Violence of the Ministry of Public Security intervenes.
This unit is made up of 11 women and men who are specialized in violence with a gender perspective, so the aggressor is detained and placed under the custody of the municipal divisions, where he stays for about 36 hours and, if necessary, an investigation file is opened.
While the victim is taken to the Felipe G. Dobarganes General Hospital and once she is there, the institute is notified so that they can supervise that the victim receives the necessary care.
The IMAM provides attention to victims of violence through 911 or anonymously to the telephone numbers 415 130 9486 and 415 130 0364 of municipal attention and to 075 of the state; 24/7, 365 days a year.
