Gyms in SMA can only operate at 30% of their capacity and attendance will be by appointment. In addition, they must comply with the measures established in the Protocols for the Reopening of Productive Activities.

San Miguel de Allende.- As of Thursday, August 13, the gyms that have the ‘Health First’ certification have reopened. San Miguel mayor, Luis Alberto Villarreal García, announced this to gym owners after two weeks ago he said that their reopening was unthinkable.

He urged them to comply with the measures established in the Protocols for the Reopening of Productive Activities in the Municipality, approved this Monday, August 10th by the City Council.

Villarreal held a first meeting with the sector at the end of July. Together with the Health Sector, they reviewed the epidemiological panorama and the risk of contagion of Covid-19. Then they agreed to meet at the end of August, however, this Tuesday they decided to reactivate, based on the mandate of the city council.

Some of the agreements are: gyms will close until 10 at night, based on their installed capacity and will operate at 30% of capacity, and by appointment only. The practice of contact sports, such as karate or boxing, will only contemplate training, no fighting.

Laura Leyva, the owner of IronFistTraining Center, pointed out that the meetings served to learn about the concerns of the union and the government, “we are happy, we are a sector always committed to health and we are going to follow the protocols indicated by local authorities.”

Finally, the municipal president made a commitment to monitor this sector, and increase the capacity to 50%, when the infection rate allows it.
