Queretaro local and current fashion design student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Daniela Gutierrez Arreguin.
This week, Daniela was named the recipient of the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA) 2020 Liz Claiborne Design for Impactful Futures Scholar Award. This prestigious award is a $25,000 USD scholarship given to one university student each year since its founding in 2009. The award celebrates emerging designers and the next generation of leaders in sustainable fashion.
Daniela was honored for her collection, titled System Change, which aims to raise awareness of the climate crisis and sustainable fashion and was designed with maximum recyclability and reusability in mind. Outerwear pieces made out of repurposed billboards previously used for advertisements can be recycled when the garment reaches the end of its life. Additional pieces were created from different recycled cotton fabrics, such as denim, twill, and jersey. Natural cotton fabrics used in the collection can be composted.
