Only 20% of the total Airbnb businesses in SMA pay lodging tax

Guanajuato.- Around 300 Airbnb service providers, representing 20% of the more than 1,500 that are in San Miguel de Allende, have paid the municipality the 10,000 pesos per year to be able to operate and have been registered in the registry. established in the Law of Hosting by Digital Platforms, but this is far from the success that is required, by virtue of the fact that there are no records in other municipalities, acknowledged the local congressman, Miguel Ángel Salim.

He mentioned that derived from the pandemic, the agreement between the Ministry of Finance, Investment and Administration has not been signed to have the registry of those who are registered in various digital hosting platforms, in order to be able to collect the tax of lodging to achieve a ‘level floor’ with the hoteliers in the entity.

“We are stuck because due to the issue of the pandemic, this year we are just regularizing, we are just beginning to take up these issues, we have to do face-to-face meetings, we have to sign agreements, so we can address the issue properly. In order to make an agreement between the state government with digital platforms, that is the first step, and the second step is for all those who are on these platforms to be registered in the state registry”, Miguel Ángel Salim said.

For this reason, he added that the law approved in the present legislature has not been put into operation as it would have been wanted.

He reiterated that San Miguel de Allende is the only municipality where so far providers of this service have been registered. And it is that he recalled that in the State Congress approved in the Income Law of this municipality that digital platforms must pay 10,000 pesos per year so that they can obtain the corresponding operation permit.
