San Miguel de Allende.- After pausing in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in San Miguel de Allende the traditional Catrina parade was revived with more than one thousand participants, among San Miguel residents, foreign community, and visitors at the historic center.
Schools, service clubs, non-governmental organizations, youth groups, organized neighbors, and residents of San Miguel, in general, filled the streets with the mysticism that surrounds this Mexican tradition and that has been taking place in San Miguel for more than 20 years.
Catrinas, Catrines, world cinema characters, and some disguised as politicians and celebrities, all paraded from El Cardo, Ancha de San Antonio, Zacateros, and Umarán starting at 7:30 at night, where the contingent was applauded by the inhabitants of all the San Miguel territory and visitors who came to this celebration of life and commemoration of death.
The public party advanced through these streets and more people and their energy joined until it reached the South Plaza of the Main Garden, where the party continued enlivened by traditional and contemporary music by Rancho Labradores and a student woman, who danced and danced along while she sang to the audience.
“It was a very crowded celebration. We had many participants. The people of San Miguel and many visitors were able to coexist. There was a very enthusiastic participation of many people ”, expressed the director of Culture and Traditions, Acacio Martínez, and who also specified that for the next edition the tour could be extended and that this party involves more streets and more families from San Miguel.
In particular, the foreign community based in San Miguel stood out with very striking costumes or disguises in communion with the San Miguel people, which merged both communities in the same taste of living the traditions of Mexico and living in San Miguel de Allende.
In addition to this tradition, another of equal importance and color was represented in each of the neighborhoods of the municipality, where its inhabitants organized offerings and altars.
Some of these altars were set up in the cneighborhoods of La Aurora, Guadalupe, La Estación, San Rafael, Allende, Valle del Maíz, where people went on these Days of the Dead to visit them and later have family gatherings.
