San Miguel dressed in black to celebrate the dead… and the living too!

San Miguel de Allende becomes, for another year, the setting for the luxurious celebrations of the Day of the Dead. The charm of the Pueblo Mágico merged with the mysticism of the Mexican tradition to offer multiple experiences such as the now traditional “Black Dinner”, an event that brings together the most representative elements to offer a gastronomic experience like no other

In an elegant atmosphere, candles, marigold flowers, music, and other elements were the protagonists of the night, the celebration took place inside the Moxi restaurant, which is located inside the Hotel Matilda in the heart of San Miguel. of Allende.

This 2021 edible concert was held through the talent of chef Gaby Ruiz. In five magical courses, those present were able to taste the benefits of the flavors of the season in dishes that were accompanied by emblematic songs of the season.

Those present, mostly characterized as catrinas and catrines , enjoyed an evening like no other where “La llorona”, “Ola, adiós”, “Adoro”, “Nuestro ouramento” and “Eclipse” offered the scores to harmonize the dinner.

Sikil pak tostadas, black recado fish ceviche, a banana fritter accompanied by black mole, braised short ribs with black beans, and a colorful dessert in the shape of the marigold flower filled with incense and orange-vanilla cream with Almond and pumpkin sponge cake were the dishes that adorned the palate of those attending the creations of chef Gaby Ruiz and Fernanda Prado.

Over the years, the “Black Dinner” has had in its celebration the most important actors of the Mexican gastronomic scene, among which Martha Ortíz, Enrique Olvera, Roberto Solis, Eduardo García, and Erick Guerrero stand out. In this, its tenth edition, there is no doubt about its gastronomic quality.

The pairings were in charge of great brands, among them the renowned Casa Dragones tequila, a sponsor that promotes the creation of these events that dignify the tradition of Día de Muertos from San Miguel de Allende with local flavors to be shared around the world.

This year “Cena Negra” is out of the country to be present in the city of New York this November 4th. Bringing the flavors of the country, the event will arrive in the American city to close the celebrations of “Mexico Week” , which invaded the Rockefeller Center with traditional elements of the Day of the Dead.

Celebrations between the living and the dead

The range of celebrations within the framework of the Day of the Dead from San Miguel de Allende is surprising. During the days before and after the Mexican tradition, important dinners were held in one of the favorite spots for national and international tourism to be part of the celebration.

One of these spectacular dinners was held last Saturday with a combination of flavors between the Áperi restaurant and Casa Dragones tequila. Both fused the talent of the restaurant’s gastronomy with the flavors of the distillate to create an exceptional pairing .

At a long table, those present were summoned to taste the times prepared by the San Miguel de Allende restaurant and be appreciated with the benefits of Casa Dragones tequila, having as a setting an altar of the dead that represented how colorful and emblematic the tradition is.
