UNAM does not recommend these medicines if you have Covid-19

The advancement of the omicron variant has caused confirmed cases to present symptoms of fever and a sensation of a cut body, for which the institution recalled that paracetamol is sufficient to control temperature and ibuprofen has an effect on the body’s response process to the infection.

However, other types of medications may pose a risk of toxicity or complications and should not be used in patients with active infection.

UNAM reminds that people positive for SARS-CoV-2 should not take antibiotics of any kind, for example azithromycin, levofloxacin, ceftriaxone, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, among others.

Antivirals have no effect against Covid-19, therefore, medicines such as oseltamivir, amantadine, rimantadine, acyclovir should not be consumed.

In the first five days of the disease, the intake of steroid medicines, such as cortisone or dexamethasone, is also not recommended.

Anticoagulants such as aspirin, heparin, enoxaparin and clopidogrel must be supervised by a doctor.

The highest house of studies reminds that if people suffer from another disease for which they consume some type of medication on a regular basis, they should not interrupt treatment.

“Once the person sick with Covid-19 completes five days of isolation and does not present symptoms, they can return to their activities with the general precautionary measures; If you continue with symptoms, you must complete ten days of isolation, ”explains UNAM.
