San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- Once again there was an anti-tourist tramway operation in the center of San Miguel de Allende. Transit elements arrived at Juárez street to prevent the turibuses from loading or unloading passengers.
Around noon, some 15 police officers arrived at the tram pick-up and drop-off site on Juárez Street. The agents stopped the trams, with the tourists inside, and prevented them from getting people off at that place.
The police officers forced them to turn around and get them off on San Francisco street. They forced another group of tourists aboard another tram to get off the tram at the Real exit to Querétaro and get on a city bus so they could get to the city center.
The tourists themselves confronted the policemen, accusing them of obstructing tourism and treating visitors as criminals.
The fight between the Government of Mauricio Trejo and the Turibuses began on the last weekend of 2021, when he sent them a letter demanding them to stop operations.
During 2022, there were other actions on the part of the San Miguel Municipal government, such as placing huge planters on Juárez street to prevent the trams from stopping. Then they enlarged the sidewalk, despite not having permission from INAH, which led to a legal dispute that the municipality is actually losing.
The tramway concessionaires have already won several injunctions that allow them to continue operating, but the official indication continues to be to prevent their development.
After his first report, mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco himself declared that he would not let the trams operate because it was necessary to modernize them, with units more in line with the streets of the municipality.
