Thieves removed the original lampposts from the Cieneguita bridge in San Miguel one by one, despite the efforts of authorities to stop them.
San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- The Cieneguita bridge no longer has any streetlights; a few days after it was inaugurated, last year, 5 of them were stolen and although they were replaced, it no longer has one single one lamp today.
It was inaugurated the last week of November 2022, after a series of delays, since the plan was for former mayor Luis Alberto Villarreal to inaugurate it .
A week after opening the bridge to the public, five of the streetlights were stolen, and SICOM replaced them shortly after. But the thieves simply removed them with hacksaws.
The bridge no longer has any of the original lampposts.
Local media requested information from the municipal government on the subject, but the response was that the work belonged to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Connectivity, and Mobility and that they should respond.
The work was carried out by SICOM Guanajuato, but it has already been handed over to the municipal government since January.
So now the responsibility for public lighting on the bridge and streetlights falls entirely on the municipal government of San Miguel de Allende.
The work had a cost of 82.8 million pesos and is the connection for more than 100 communities in the urban area. It is also the entrance to San Miguel de Allende, coming from the Guanajuato capital.
